Alfheim by The-Prototype92 Alfheim by The-Prototype92
Alfheim (Old Norse: Ālfheimr, "elf home") is one of the Nine Worlds and home of the Light Elves in Norse mythology and appears also in Anglo-Scottish ballads under the form Elfhame (Elphame, Elfame) as a fairyland, sometimes modernized as Elfland (Elfinland, Elvenland).

I tried to draw the galactic center in the BG.

The texture i created for the planet can be found here

:bulletred: UPDATE I : Changed the lighting and removed black line in the top
:bulletred: UPDATE II: Tweaked the planets
:bulletred: UPDATE III: Redid the planet and replaced the moon

When you first requested a critique on this piece, since I usually don't do visual art I kept this image open in my browser tab for several days and looked at it every day, taking in all the details.

My first observation is that you do atmospheres very well (I looked at other works of yours to confirm this). The planet is vibrant and detailed, and I like your back story for it. My only suggestion would be to use shadow a little more to add depth to the planet, which seems a little flat. The clouds are mostly evenly spread, and the landmass doesn't have a distinct shape. When you look at images of the Earth in space, features will stand out - storm, a mountain range - which bring the biosphere to life. Think about adding a single feature, such as the aforementioned storm and mountain range, to give the planet more character and less homogeneity.

The same goes for the moon. It's fairly rare to see a moon with an evenly mottled surface. A prominent crack or asteroid strike would make it come to life. I see a faint hint of one but no subsequent features which would result from a crack such as a chasm or long shadow. It needn't be huge or detailed as it's a secondary feature to a secondary body in this image, but might be the perfect finishing touch.

I wasn't sure at first how I felt about the Milky Way as it is depicted here, but I've decided that I like your choice to show a nontraditional view, almost edge-on. But there are no other stars in the sky, which again, makes it look a little flat. I thought perhaps that the use of lens flare was why it looked so washed out in that regard, but if you were on a ship or space station looking down, you might see it just like this. I think I'd prefer to see one or two bright stars in the background, I think, but that could be personal preference so take that for what it's worth.

If it were a larger image, I'd like some context - for example, since you used the flare and light streaking, I'd like to see where the photographer is standing - a hint of the arm of a space station or the loading dock of a ship. That way we get the sense of the photographer and the story that goes along with it.

Very Good. I like the subtlety of the stars beyond the planet with a view of a galaxy close by. This work shows you really paid attention to every subtle detail. I think the moon may need a touch of shading to be in line with the planet, but either way its still a wonderful piece. Great work!
